چکیده

The Coherent Gradient Sensor (CGS) is extended to the optical differentiation of specular, diffracted wave fronts leading to the combined measurement of inand outof-plane displacement field gradients. A derivation of the underlying optical interference principles is presented along with an analysis of the effective instrument sensitivity. In order to demonstrate the capabilities of the technique, experimental measurements of crack-tip deformation fields were conducted under various loading conditions corresponding to mode-I, mode-II, and mixed mode neartip crack fields. The experimental procedures and results of these tests are presented as validation of the technique.

A coherent gradient sensor for crack tip deformation measurements: analysis and experimental results

A first order diffraction analysis of an optical interferometer, Coherent Gradient Sensor (CGS), for measuring surface gradients is presented. Its applicability in the field of fracture mechanics is demonstrated by quantitatively measuring the gradients of out-of-plane displacements around a crack tip in a three point bent fracture specimen under static loading. This method has potential for th...

Combined Shearography and Speckle Pattern Photography for Single-Access Multi-Component Surface Strain Measurement

Full surface strain measurement requires the determination of two out-of-plane and four in-plane displacement gradient components of the surface strain tensor. Shearography is a full-field speckle interferometry technique with a sensitivity predominately to the out-of-plane displacement gradient. Speckle pattern photography has the sensitivity to the in-plane displacement, and taking the deriva...

Wave Propagation in Rectangular Nanoplates Based on a New Strain Gradient Elasticity Theory with Considering in-Plane Magnetic Field

In this paper, on the basis of a new strain gradient elasticity theory, wave propagation in rectangular nanoplates by considering in-plane magnetic field is studied. This strain gradient theory has two gradient parameters and has the ability to compare with the nonlocal elasticity theory. From the best knowledge of author, it is the first time that this theory is used for investigating wave pro...

Reflection of Plane Wave at Traction-Free Surface of a Pre-Stressed Functionally Graded Piezoelectric Material (FGPM) Half-Space

This paper is devoted to study a problem of plane waves reflection at a traction-free surface of a pre-stressed functionally graded piezoelectric material (FGPM). The effects of initial stress and material gradient on the reflection of plane waves are studied in this paper. Secular equation has been derived analytically for the pre-stressed FGPM half-space and used to show the existence of two ...
